This a short 6 question interview to help you get know a little bit more about m4sterguru, one of the creators of Protech 1. Who should use your distribution? Protech is 'designed' for security professionals and programmers, but it's simplicity allows everyone used to linux to use it as an alternative to bloated operative systems. 2. What is one thing you would like your distribution to have or do that no other distribution does? We'd like Protech to be the most reliable bug-free distribution of the type. But I guess we have that already... :) 3. Why did you decide to make your own live security distribution? We always had a passion for security related Linux Distributions, but we couldn't find one that simply worked 'ou of the box'. The bad hardware support, the old 'square' looks, the missing tools. It seemed to us like an endless nightmare. So we decided to make one that just worked, that was more than just a faade or a name. 4. How many man hours go into each release? Honestly, I don't know the true answer to that... Perhaps weeks, perhaps months... We got working and time just went by. We shutdown our cell-phones so we wouldn't be bothered, we forgot to eat many times and we just kept working and experimenting until we finished. But I think it was all worth it. It's such a great feeling when you acomplish your goal. 5. What is your favorite *nix distribution and why? This is definitely it! Protech is our Choice. There's the performance and customization of Gentoo, the stability of Debian and the ease of use of Ubuntu with the most recent software available. It doesn't get much better than this... :) 6. How do you see live security distributions evolving over the next few years? What is the biggest upgrade/addition that is planned for your distribution? Well, I think it's logic that live security distributions, as all other distributions, are destined to be more and more specific to it's end use. And we see today that are already security distributions made just for Firewall purposes, for example. This maybe as good as it can be bad, but that's another long speech. For Protech, ideas come and go everyday. For now our big goal is to make Protech as autonomous as possible, to suppress dependences. We always think in inovation, ofcourse there are many restrictions to consider (such as size), but we aim to impress in a good way, and i'm afraid i can't share all secrets. :)
